Synopsis: The opening track on Ashleigh Flynn & The Riveters’ self-titled debut (2018), “This Love” was written by Flynn in real-time reaction to the first presidential debate between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Donald J. Trump on September 26, 2016 – and loosely references Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s civil rights anthem “This Train”. Taking its cue from the nativity story of the song, the music video tracks various nonviolent protest movements over the past 100 years and aims to celebrate a joyful, hopeful, creative spirit of resistance that is alive and well in this country – and around the world – despite some darker regressive forces coalescing at this moment in history.
